Kicking Fear out of your “House”
Do you let fear live in your “house”? I often let fear climb into my bed and steal my rest. It eats my food and takes my strength. It fills my shoes and follows me throughout the day. It too often consumes me. God does not want us to live this way. Kick fear out of your “house” and replace it with trust in God. Replace it with the precious promises of God. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
What are some practical ways we can eliminate fear in our hearts and minds?
1- Talk to God about every thing, every day, and every issue
Who do you bring your problems to first? Family and friends, or God?
Who greater to help your need? Who greater to comfort you and strengthen you?
Matthew 11:8 says, “Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
My favorite hymn says, “Oh what peace we often forfeit, Oh what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer.” Wow. So convicting…
Sometimes we think our problems are so small. Much too small for God to care about… but no! God doesn’t only care about the big things! He cares about everything you could imagine.
- Every burden you carry God wants to carry for you
- “His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me “
2- Replace the time you spend rehearsing your problems with time spent rehearsing His promises
My Pop always says, The more you get into the Bible, the more the Bible will get into you.
Fear will have a hard time living in your “house” when Scripture has taken over all of the rooms of your mind.
Reading God’s Word is such a practical truth, but is so essential, as essential as eating and drinking water.
- Prioritize getting help from the Word of God several times a day
Look up verses that pertain to your specific situation!
- Place verses and promises in places you can see, and claim them
Some practical examples of this are:
o Your phone background
o On your mirror
o Verse of the week in a planner or calendar
3- Get your eyes off of yourself
Galatians 6:2 - Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ
It’s easy to keep your eyes on your own problems and stresses. I mean come on… it’s so consuming.
If you truly want to see some peace and fulfillment in your life, even during times of fear, you have to get your eyes off of “self.” The happiest people are people who are constantly doing for others! You have to be seeing like Jesus sees and loving like Jesus loves. It is an impossible standard, but the greatest motivation!
Tell fear that it simply is not welcome in your “home.”
